ABC/USA Leaders Bring Greetings to Karen Baptist Convention

This morning American Baptist Churches/USA leaders arrived in Yangon just in time to participate in the Karen Baptist Convention's Centennial Celebration Worship Service. The service, which lasted three plus hours, included great musical selections by string, brass, and vocal groups.

The gathering also focused on the common history of mission and witness that binds American Baptists and Karen Baptists in Myanmar together in bonds of faith, fellowship, and friendship.  Greetings were brought by several ABC leaders including, the Rev. Dr. Reid Trulson, ABC International Ministries Executive Director and the Rev. Stan Murray, IM Area Director of Southeast Asia and Japan.

In his exhortation to the convention, ABC/USA General Secretary the Rev. Dr. Roy Medley referred not only to the shared past that unites Baptists in America and Myanmar, but to the present task of bearing witness to Christ.  In challenging the assembly, he quoted his interpreter, the Rev. Dr. Eh Wah, who said, "You are the fifth gospel - the only gospel some people will ever read."
Dr. Medley and Dr. Eh Wah share a humorous moment.
After the service concluded many American Baptists remained for conversations and photos with friends, colleagues, and new acquaintances from the U.S., Myanmar, and around the world. KBC General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Greeta Din invited the ABC contingent to the newly built KBC Centenary Jubilee Building for a delicious luncheon feast of Karen food.
